Call to Order:
President Carmen Hagloch called the meeting to order at 4:30pm.
Approval of
Minutes:
July 2009 Minutes were emailed to Board members, approved online and posted on the WIRCA website prior to our meeting. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the July minutes.
Treasurers
Report:
The Treasurer's report was distributed and presented by Roger Liu. Roger is carefully selecting the proper CD instrument to maximize profits as well as timing the deposit to optimize interest bearing potential. Expenses for upcoming Road Maintenance will be forthcoming. It was moved, seconded and voted to approve the Treasurer's Report.
Committee Reports:
- Nominating Committee
- Board positions are now filled and Donna Ashley, Lisa Iwata, Sandra
Kingery, Shirley Kollmeyer, Roger Liu, and David Andrew will continue
to serve from 2010 through 2012. It was moved, seconded and voted
to accept nominations for existing Board officers for January election.
- Newsletter -
The deadline
for articles for the next newsletter is October 1 per Joann Allin.
A Flyer for the upcoming Annual Dinner Meeting will be included in
the next issue along with an article detailing Green waste disposal.
- Membership Dues
- Donna Ashley reported that dues collected are at record setting
levels and that a majority of the 624 homes in our Association have
been processed with some pro-rated refunds for new members who overpaid.
Early billing invoices for 2010 will be going out soon.
- Decals - Sandra
Kingery has sent out 2 new car decals in this cycle.
- Web Page - Steve
Camara will continue updating the website via the Webmaster to include
upcoming changes to our bylaws and a link to the Waialae Iki 5 website.
Detailed web traffic statistics will be provided at future meetings.
- Streets and
Sidewalks – Lisa Iwata has acquired an estimate from a private contractor
to paint over the white paint splash on or around 1800 Laukahi. Motion
made and carried to hire contractor for completion before the end
of this month. The long paint drip from Kuhilani down to the highway
on Laukahi in the parking lane will be taken care of by WIRCA volunteers.
- Information
Dissemination – Helen MacNeil has had various phone calls and emails
regarding issues helping new residents become assimilated to the community.
She will provide guidance on these issues and encourage residents
to seek advice from appropriate sources on their rights as affected
homeowners.
- Security – Mike
Bianco has been successful, through phone calls and emails, in persuading
HPD to continue to track crime statistics by neighborhood. Officer
Steve Forman is making a special effort to do this just for our ridge,
and he will be invited to our Annual Dinner Meeting. A new hands free
cell phone for our roving Guards will be acquired per legal compliance.
- Database – Judy
Fadrowsky is working to update the e-mail list as there were 8 or
9 dead links.
- Public Affairs
and Liaison to Neighborhood Board Steve Camara will be elected
at the October 1 Neighborhood Board #2 meeting to fill the vacant
position of Waialae Iki (SD2). Mel Yap will continue to represent
the lower increment(SD1). The City representative has guaranteed that
Wailupe Elementary will not be converted to a homeless shelter as
proposed by the current City Manager. Post Offices in Aina Haina,
Waialae-Kahala, and Kaimuki will remain open under terms of their
existing lease agreements, contrary to speculated closure detailed
in the local newspapers.
- Social - Sandra
Kingery and Fay Jones are finalizing plans for the Annual Meeting
scheduled for November 9, 2009.
- Bylaws and Parliamentary
Procedure - Janice Wright will update the Association bylaws detailing
a downsizing of Board positions from 21 to 18 and insure the language
is congruent throughout all sections via a cumulative proofread. All
residents are encouraged to review available documents at the website
to familiarize themselves with the content.
- Traffic Calming
- Volunteers will resume "Slow Down On Our Hill" sign-waving ASAP
to heighten awareness. One of the weekend Guards clocked a vehicle
going 80 mph on Laukahi.
- Zone Captains
– Fay Jones reported that 4 welcome packets were distributed to new
residents.
- Temporary Committees:
Parks - No Report.
Old Business:
- The WIRCA sign project at the foot of the hill will be researched by a new sub-committee comprised of Judy, Roger, and Lisa to clarify design and placement. A strategy for the developing dumpsite at the bottom of Laukahi and the highway is moving into a final phase.
